Brand Your Social Network Profile

If you use social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook for your business, you have the option of uploading a profile photo.  The most effective profile photo is your company logo.  This photo is included in the results displayed when users search for you on Facebook or Twitter. If it is your logo, your customers or prospects can quickly and easily identify you.

Profile images on social networking sites are typically square and small.  Unless your logo is already square in shape, you will need to do some image editing to get the most impact out of your logo and avoid distorting or diminishing your brand.  Here are some simple steps you can take to prepare your logo:

  1. Open the logo in an image editor like Photoshop.  (If you don't own Photoshop, you can use the free GIMP image editor for Windows, Mac or Linux).
  2. Create a new image that is 300 pixels square at 72dpi on a white background.
  3. Copy/Place your logo onto the square image you just created.
  4. Scale the logo to fill as much of the square as possible without stretching or distorting your logo.  Remember to leave a little space around the logo - don't scale all the way to the edge of the white square.
  5. Save this new image as a JPEG file and upload as your profile image on Facebook or Twitter.
